This Page Tells the Unique Story of the
Clare Bridge Gardens/Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Center
(Formerly Called The Atrium/The Atrium Extension)

Light.  Laughter.  Color.  Optimism.
Activity.  Energy.  Fun.  Life!

These aren’t words usually used to describe life in a facility that specializes in the care of persons with Alzheimer’s disease.  But at Foxwood Springs, they perfectly describe the atmosphere of its Clare Bridge Gardens/Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Center and the attitudes of the residents, their families, and the people involved in their care.

In the Clare Bridge Gardens/Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Center at Foxwood Springs, the emphasis is placed on life, not on the illness, and the goal is to find ways to help people connect to the world around them and the people in it.  In a progressive illness where success is measured in seconds or minutes of connecting to reality, Foxwood Springs is experiencing success.

The effectiveness of the program begins with the design and architecture of the building itself.   By filtering out upsetting environmental distractions --  shadows, noise, hallways, alarms and traffic -- the peaceful, orderly and attractive environment enables residents to use their energy for life-enhancing interests and pursuits.  And the two separate levels of the Clare Bridge Gardens/Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Center support residents as they move through the stages of the illness.  Foxwood Springs also offers a support group to family members of its Alzheimer’s residents.

Clare Bridge Gardens/Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Center

There are many surprising sights in the Clare Bridge Gardens/Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Center.  A child from the on-site Landis Child Development Center at Foxwood Springs is cuddling a kitten while a resident cuddles them both.

A picture of the Atrium where everyone enjoys each other's company

A resident plays the piano while others listen and enjoy.  A group gathers each week for devotions and spiritual renewal.  Pleasant meals are served in small-group settings.

In the Intergenerational Courtyard just outside the Clare Bridge Gardens/Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Center, people of all ages are oblivious to their differences as they join in the common pursuit of having fun.  Here residents benefit from a plan of care designed to identify and build upon their individual interests and capabilities.

The lofty architecture, open spaces, overlapped lighting and soothing decor filter out environmental factors that confuse or distract Alzheimer’s residents.  The 15 semi-private rooms are large and comfortable; residents add their own belongings to give them the security of familiar surroundings and the atmosphere of home.

Twelve beds are provided here for persons in the late stages of Alzheimer’s disease.  The primary focus of care in this wing of the Clare Bridge Gardens/Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Center is to provide for residents’ physical needs and add individual activities to bring a measure of quality and joy to life.  Reading, music and other bedside leisure activities are conducted daily.
